Google Friend Connect Update, Now supports 47 new languages

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Google friend connect is a great social networking application from Google, it allows any website to create a Google based social network which becomes embedded and part of a website. It’s a great way of building and developing a site based community and encouraging interaction, engagement, commenting and participation from your site visitors.

friend

Up until now Google Friend connect has only been available in English, which has limited the number of worldwide users. As of 13th July 2009, Google friend connect will be available and supported in 47 additional languages including; French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi and Portuguese. Now international language sites can integrate Google Friend Connect and build social communities in their websites core language.

“When you add Friend Connect to a new site, it will default to your primary language. But if your site is in another language, simply select it on the site settings tab and Friend Connect will automatically render the gadgets in that language. And if have multiple sites in different languages, you can select a different language for each of your sites.” Taken from the Official Google Blog.

Friend Connect is very obviously part of a bigger strategy by Google but it is extremely difficult to say exactly what their future plans will be. We do know that Google is working on a variety of new products and technologies and Friend Connect is sure to be part of this development.
