Google has unveiled a new secret project which is set to rock the very bedrock of the search engine marketplace.

The new Google upgrade, which was announced on Monday, will be part of Google’s ongoing development to maintain their industry leading online presence. Google Insiders have code named the new search engine as “Caffeine”. The company have opened up access to the new platform to developers.

The design of the new Google remains the same, but what is more important is the behind the scenes technology which has promised radical changes providing users with much more relevant results.

“For the past several months a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search,” taken from Google Blog.

“It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions.”

Caffeine is set to allow Google to provide more relevant information to its users, improving the user experience, indexing and crawl rates without loss of quality.

Matt Cutts Writes in his blog. “I love competition in search and want lots of it, but this change has been in the works for months, I think the best way for Google to do well in search is to continue what we’ve done for the last decade or so: focus relentlessly on pushing our search quality forward.”

This new move to update Google comes hot on the heels of the launch of Microsoft’s Bing search engine and the Yahoo, Microsoft Partnership. Both Twitter and Facebook are now becoming involved in search and scientific new boy, Wolfram Alpha, is also a potential threat to Google’s dominance. It’s important for Google to keep doing what it’s doing so well, maintain its existing user experience while improving and developing functionality and result quality. This will help to maintain its existing users and attract new users from its competitors. Click here to test drive the new Google.
Each change and improvement to the user interface has been based on user requests and has been designed to offer increased functionality. 3) URL removal requests are now historic and recorded on a domain level. This allows multiple webmasters to verify url removal and trace requests. Great addition to the system.
4) Sitemaps are now easier to recognise as verified or not verified with a new attention grabbing logo.
It’s great to see that Google listens to its users and changes and upgrades are of real benefit and not just aesthetic.

Google has announced the launch of two new features which have been designed to improve the user experience of its main search engine. The first is an updated related search facility which has been designed to offer broader variations of suggested search terms from within the original search criteria. The new functionality can be found at the bottom of each search engine results page. “For example, if you search for [principles of physics], our algorithms understand that “angular momentum,” “special relativity,” “big bang” and ” quantum mechanic” are related terms that could help you find what you need,” said Ori Allon, technical lead of Google’s Search Quality Team. The second update is an improvement to the search engine results listings. …

The snippet or description text, which appears under the page title of a search engine result, has been changed to improve the quality of served listings. This is a direct result in the increased use of more complex search terms and criteria from Google search engine users. The snippet length will get longer in order to serve higher quality information on long tail searches of three or more keywords.

“Suppose you were looking for information about Earth’s rotation around the sun, and specifically wanted to know about its tilt and distance from the sun. So you type all of that into Google: [earth's rotation axis tilt and distance from sun],” said Ken Wilder, snippets team engineer at Google..
“A normal-length snippet wouldn’t be able to show you the context for all of those words, but with longer snippets you can be sure that the first result covers all those topics.”

This is part of Google’s ongoing development program which is directly fuelled by its search engines immense popularity. Google is looking at ways of improving the quality of its search engine results. Personalised Search and Search Wiki are just a few of the potential updates which are currently being beta tested. Google is looking at new ways to serve more relevant, personalised and specific information to its search engine users.

Over the past few weeks the search marketing industry has been buzzing by the news that Google now prefers brands, giving big brand sites an extra boost in ranking. The changes took effect in the recent “Vince’s” Google Algorithm update. The changes took effect in the recent “Vince’s” Google Algorithm update.

Matt Cutts, head of Googles Webspam team, recorded the following Youtube video for Googles webmasters Central channel explaining exactly how the changes will effect search results.

Matt Cutts stated that the “simple change” is not so much about brands, but about elements that go into a brand, including “trust, authority, reputation, PageRank, high quality.”

“I don’t think of it as putting more weight on brands. We really don’t think about ‘brands’ in Search Quality that much,” says Matt “It’s not that we try to always return brands. We try to return whatever we think the best results are for users.”

“The net upshot of this change is pretty simple. We try to return high-quality results, we think a lot about trust, reputation, authority, PageRank. And so, what you should be doing doesn’t change: try to make a great site. Try to make it a site that is so fantastic that you become known as an authority in your niche,” Cutts said. “And it doesn’t have to be a big niche. It doesn’t have to be a huge, well known keyword. It can be a smaller niche, and if you’re still the expert, that’s the sort of thing that people are going to want to link to, that they’ll talk about, the sort of thing people really enjoy. Those are the sorts of sites, the experts, that we want to bring back.”
